It’s #WorldWaterDay guys! Every year March 22 marks the day the world comes together to take action to fight the world’s water crisis.
According to UN-Water, there are over 663 million people living without safe water close to home – meaning they have to line up or walk for hours to access a clean water source, or they’re dealing with the health impacts of drinking contaminated water.
Knowing this, and knowing how wasteful the textiles industry (and individuals) can be with our most valuable resource, we keep water top of mind every day here at Ungalli.
How?
- Our organic and recycled clothing uses less water to manufacture. It takes 2,720 litres of water to make a traditional t-shirt, which is the amount most of us drink over the course of three years! Every Ungalli tee saves a whopping 2,695 litres of water by only using 25 litres in production.
We also work with Green Story to give you a tangible idea of how many days of drinking water each piece of our clothing saves. Take, for example, our Tree of Life Lightweight Front Zip. It saves 204 days of drinking water versus a comparable piece of clothing. - We turn water bottles into clothes. How? By shaving sorted PET bottles into flakes, melting them into small pellets, and turning them into yarn fiber. One Ungalli recycled t-shirt saves about 10 plastic bottles from ending up in a landfill. Learn more about the process and why it’s important here.
How do you guys work to save water every day? We’d love to hear from you on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
