Happy International Women's Day!

Happy International Women’s Day!

We’re so grateful to be a part of the sustainable fashion movement here in Canada – but we know we’re not the only ones making a difference.

We wanted to take this day to celebrate Canadian women making waves with their conscious businesses. Here’s a shortlist of our faves.

Lippy Girl - Darcey Diehl
It’s hard to find high-quality makeup that’s not tested on animals or filled with weird ingredients – fish scales in your lipstick anyone?

That’s why we love Lippy Girl, from Vancouver-based working mom Darcey Diehl.

Her professional-grade, organic, cruelty-free and vegan products for lips, faces and eyes have been featured in Flare, Hello Giggles and Refinery 29. What’s not to love?

Abeego - Toni Desrosiers
Dubbed ‘The future of food wrap’, Abeego is a high-quality, washable and reusable beeswax wrap.

It’s way better than bringing your bagged lunch wrapped in plastic that you’ll invetiably throw out – plus, it keeps food fresh longer. This is key when you consider Canadians waste 40 per cent of their fresh produce. Yikes.

Victoria-based Toni was recently on Dragon’s Den and she rocked it.

Pure+Simple – Jean Eng
If you have sensitive skin, a company like Toronto-based Pure+Simple is a godsend. Its skincare products are all free of harmful ingredients like parabens, petrochemicals, silicones, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances and dyes. Its four spa locations (most in Toronto, one in Waterloo, ON) offer natural services as well.

They also run a Bottle Return Program that asks customers to bring back their bottles for recycling and offers $1 off for every Pure+simple, Holistic Vanity, or Minimalist bottle returned.

Zazubean - Tiziana Ienna and Tara Gilbert
Organic. Superfood. Chocolate. Need we say more? This Vancouver-based chocolatier’s ingredients are gluten-free, soy-free, GMO-free and 100% USDA organic certified.

Tiziana and Tara’s “Good For the Growers, Good for the Planet and Good for You” mantra rings true – their Fair For Life Social certification means farmers earn fair wages and human rights are guaranteed at every stage of production.

Fun flavours include Hottie (organic chili pepper, cinnamon and Yerba mate), Cheeky (salted toffee and banana), and Sassy (coconut milk-based for dairy-free foodies). We also love their other nine awesomely named options.

Any other brands we should know about? Share them with us on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

Thanks for continuing to support the sustainable movement.

Happy International Women’s Day and Happy Shopping!
