Phyllis Webstad was six years old when the new orange shirt she excitedly chose for her first day of school was stripped off her back and she never saw it again. It was the early 1970's and Phylis was part of the third generation in her family to attend St. Joseph's Residential School in Williams Lake, B.C., also know as The Mission.
On September 30th, 2013 Phylis Webstad organized the first Orange Shirt Day in Williams Lake to acknowledge the harm that Canada's residential school system has had on generations of Indigenous children, families, and communities.
Every Year on September 30th Canadians are encouraged to wear in orange in honour of Residential School Survivors and Residential School Students who never made it home.
Every Child Matters.
Proceeds from all Orange Shirt Day Products will be donated to the Orange Shirt Society.
